My name is David Winant, and I'm a computer professional. I started working with BASIC in about 1979, and I've been learning stuff about computers ever since. For those of you watching at home, 1979 is before my wife was born!

For the last twenty years, I've been making a living as an "embedded software developer". That can mean different things to different people, but to me it means that most of the software that I write runs on devices that don't have a video screen and a keyboard hooked up.

I want to use this site to put down in writing some of the things I have learned about computers, and I want to do it in language normal people can understand.

Personally, I live in West Virginia, I graduated from Virginia Tech, and most importantly I have a wonderful wife, Sherry, and two great sons Samuel (the Awesome one) and Joseph (the Cracken).
